Barranquilla (population approx. 2 million), is situated along the Magdalena River in northern Colombia on the tropical and vibrant Caribbean coast. The city is known as the Golden Gate to Colombia and is a fun loving, but hardworking, cosmopolitan port city. Barranquilla is especially well known for its festive Carnaval de Barranquilla celebrations in the spring, but this unique rhythm and pulse continues to fills the city year round. As the birthplace of Shakira, Barranquilla is a city that loves to let loose, dance salsa, and bask in the "eternal summer" weather.

Barranquilla started it's life as "Colombia's port" in the early 1600s. Through the years Barranquilla has welcomed people from all over the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. This diverse population has given the city a unique and friendly feel and an international rhythm.
