Chengdu (pop. 14,047,625) is the capital city of Sichuan Province. Located in southwest China at the western edge of the Sichuan Basin, Chengdu is known as one of the most important economic centers and is a major transportation and communication hub in China. Historically, it has played an important role in the political, economical, cultural, and military development of southwest China.

Often rated as the top "livable mega-city" in China, Chengdu is not only modern but also is unique for its leisurely life pace, with an abundant traditional tea houses scattered throughout the city. Sichuan Province also is the home of the Giant Pandas, Sichuan food (spicy and delicious), as well as the oldest existing irrigation project in the world, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System.
