Research Abroad

THROUGH EUROSCHOLARS

What is
EuroScholars?

EuroScholars is a prestigious semester-long study abroad program designed for talented and highly-motivated undergraduate students looking to participate in international research.

As a EuroScholars participant, you will join a research team at one of the renowned research universities which make up the EuroScholars consortium. All research projects are conducted in English unless otherwise specified within the project’s description on the EuroScholars project search.

ISA and EuroScholars have partnered together to offer this unique program to undergraduates studying in the US or Canada. While the EuroScholars consortium administers the program, ISA manages the recruitment and admissions process for all participants.

Once you've been accepted into a research project, you will begin working closely with your EuroScholars host university regarding pre-departure preparations such as visas, confirming program dates, housing, and more. Your host university contacts (Host Institution Coordinator and Research Project Supervisor) will also be your main/first point of contact regarding your research project and any aspects of your experience abroad. The EuroScholars consortium manages the program on-site, including housing, academics, health & safety support, etc.

Getting Started

Step 1:

Meet with your study abroad advisor on campus to talk about necessary approvals and financial aid options.

Step 2:

Ensure you meet the requirements for the program: 1) 3.4 cumulative GPA and 2) you must be attached to a U.S. or Canadian home institution while participating in the program. Your home institution must complete the Learning Agreement after acceptance into a project, even if you will not be transferring credits to that institution. Some specific projects may list additional requirements in their project descriptions.

Step 3:

Find at least two projects of interest on the *euroscholars.eu* website; each project must be at a different EuroScholars host institution.

Step 4:

Check deadlines for the program to which you are applying. The application deadline for the fall semester is April 1st, and the deadline for spring is October 1st*. The ISA Forms & Payment deadline is one month after the corresponding application deadline for each semester.

*Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and are sent to your top choice projects one at a time, in your indicated order of preference. It is strongly encouraged that you complete your application well in advance of the deadlines to ensure adequate time for professors to review your applications in time for admissions, visa processes, etc., especially if for any reason your application must be moved to your alternate project selections. It may be less possible to secure a placement for students who complete their applications on or close to the deadlines.

Step 5:

Once you feel prepared to do so, you can *begin the application process here!* This quick online application will create an ISA Student Portal account for you, where you can submit your supporting materials, such as a resume, cover letter, two letters of recommendation, etc.

Mid-Stay Program

Mid-Stay Program

During the semester, a “Mid-Stay Program” will be organized for all EuroScholars students at one of the host institutions. The Mid-Stay program will consist of an academic portion, in which students will present on their research findings up to that point of the semester, as well as social activities around the host city.

Insurance

International Medical Insurance

A Blanket Accident and Sickness Policy is included in the price and covers the program participant while abroad for the official on-site period of program. This is not an optional benefit; every ISA participant will be covered by this policy. Coverage can be extended before or after a program, up to four weeks total. Students can extend their policy for $25 per week by contacting their Program Manager.

NOTE: Students participating in certain EuroScholars destinations may be required to purchase additional host country insurance for immigration purposes. For example, students studying/researching in Switzerland may need to purchase Swiss insurance to meet immigration standards.

We recommend that all program participants maintain comprehensive health insurance while abroad. This is particularly important if you have any pre-existing conditions, but is also beneficial if you have an injury or illness while abroad and require further treatment upon your return home. Consult with your current insurance provider to confirm coverage policies while traveling abroad.
