Comments From StudentsArgentina:Buenos Aires ArgentinaBuenos AiresMy ISA experience exceeded all of my expectations. With the support of the staff and the excitement of my host country I developed into a more independent, open-minded and carefree person. This experience has changed my outlook on life and introduced so many opportunities for me. This was truly a life changing experience. Alana Macy, UC Boulder My political, cultural, social, personal and linguistic knowledge has significantly expanded in such a short stay. I´ve learned life lessons that are fundamental for my future growth and maturity in ways that I will probably never realize. Devin Oliver, The Ohio State University This experience is truly one of a kind. You are able to immerse yourself in a different culture and learn all it has to offer, making long last friendships both with students in your program and with locals. But the true learning experience is the one you gain from the country as it help you learn more about yourself allowing you to see all that you are capable of accomplishing. Dianna Brittian, University of Maryland, Baltimore County "Studying abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina was one of best experiences I've ever had. I would recommend anyone considering studying abroad to do it. I can guarantee you will not regret it. I still keep in touch with my host family and I became close with my friends I met there, most of whom I still communicate with. I also would recommend anyone interested in volunteering through the ELAP program to also do it. I learned several things from my trip- about myself and the Argentine culture, among other things. Having made this trip makes me want to study abroad again and travel." Jessica Ibarra, University of Pittsburgh I really did have the time of my life in Buenos Aires. I have learned so much about the culture, the language, and myself in these past five months. I had never lived in a big city before, so I was a little overwhelmed at first, but I certainly did fall in love with Buenos Aires, and now I don't want to leave! There is never a dull moment in this city. There are almost too many interesting people to meet and too many fun, cool things to do. I hope I can come back and visit someday: Buenos Aires will have a special place in my heart for the rest of my life. Kristen Rumery, UCLA The experience I received with ISA was beyond any expectations I had before coming to Buenos Aires. Being in a huge city far from home, ISA provided the perfect home base from which we could learn, branch out and establish our own foothold in the city. My semester abroad was incredible and was only made better with the help and guidance of the ISA staff! Lauren Robinson, University of South Carolina I cannot put a price on my experiences here in Buenos Aires nor adequately describe them in words. I can only say that these were some of the best months of my life and I could not be more pleased that I chose to study abroad with ISA. Melanie Jorgenson, Rockhurst University This experience is truly one of a kind. You are able to immerse yourself in a different culture and learn all it has to offer, making long last friendships both with students in your program and with locals. But the true learning experience is the one you gain from the country as it help you learn more about yourself allowing you to see all that you are capable of accomplishing. Nancy Camarillo, California Lutheran University When I decided to study in Argentina, I had no idea how much my life was about to change. Studying abroad is something everyone should experienced. I´m really a new person now, and I'm not looking back. Paul Hill, University of North Texas Before leaving I was feeling nervous and anxious and unsure about my decision coming abroad. Looking back now I can not believe I ever felt that way. Coming down here was legitimately the best decision I have ever made. I have learned so much about language, culture, people/diversity, art, and family but most of all I have learned so much about myself. The world would be a better place if everyone could study abroad. Rebecca Oliver, University of Colorado BelgiumBrusselsBeing a student of international affairs, I was immediately attracted to Brussels and this well priced program. The experience I gained with my internship was invaluable toward my career. And because Brussels is so close to everything I was able to travel all over Europe! I will never forget what I learned during this incredible experience. Andrew Wallis, University of Arkansas, Fayettville My experience with ISA has been one of the best experiences of my life. I have lived, at reasonable cost, in one of Europe's most-beautiful cities, Brussels. I have also made great friends, met wonderful locals, and enjoyed interesting and valuable coursework, all while traveling to some wonderful and exciting places (Amsterdam, The Hague, Cologne, etc.). It is, from what I know, one of the best values for a study abroad experience, and ISA has given me a wonderful perspective prior to pursuing graduate education. I feel like I am in the best possible position to pursue my career goals, at least in part, as a result of this journey Andrew Jon Carr, Christopher Newport University ISA is an incredible program. You will make lifelong friendships and memories. Brussels will always hold a special place in my heart. Anonymous, University of Denver Brussels is the best kept secret of Europe! Belgium has international politics, adventure, exceptional classes, great excursions, fun nightlife! Chantel Christian, University of Tennessee, Chattanooga My abroad experience with ISA has been a time of my life I will never forget. Christine Woodrome, Miami University of Ohio Study Abroad in Brussels, Belgium was definitely an eye opening experience. This kind of experience teaches you about yourself and teaches you how to go out and get things on your own. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Dafne Elizondo, University of Texas, El Paso Belgium is an eccentric place, and ISA definitely allowed me to come face to face with this unique country. Its big, detailed, and it can be a once in lifetime experience. Enjoy it. Laura Diaz, Rider University ISA Brussels, Belgium is a wonderful program. Meica Green, Randolph College This semester has totally opened my eyes to the world around me and the numerous opportunities that now lie ahead. I really feel like the world is at my finger tips. I grew as a person, had a wonderful host family, and made some great new friends. Audrianne Thrasher, Ursinus College The island of Florianópolis is so beautiful. There are so many beaches and each one has their own unique thing about them. I definitely recommend going to Lagoinha do Leste! You have to hike to get there, it's like a secret beach. The sights are amazing on the way there. Futbol games are so fun, try to go to one. Interacting with the locals was definitely a scary yet fun experience. I learned a lot more by talking to them. Jessica Acoba, University of California, Irvine ISA isn't just a study abroad program. It offers you so much more than that. Really what matters is what you make of your experience. ISA provides you with all the opportunities, and its up to you to embrace them and gain a new outlook. Kathleen Cantu-Crouch, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa Florianópolis is a magical place, a city of unique and overwhelming beauty. I had such an incredible time here that I have no words to adequately express my experience! If given the chance I would, without a doubt, do this all over again! Kathryn Morgan, Virginia Commonwealth University Coming to Brazil changed my life in so many ways. I got to experience one of the most beautiful places and cultures I have ever encountered. I grew up a lot, and feel that my level of maturity could not have been gained in the same way if I hadn't studied abroad. I made so many great friends here and I can't wait to come back to Florianópolis. Not only that, I met my girlfriend who I would have never met if I didn't come to Brazil. This trip is, hands down, the greatest thing I have ever done. Reed Farrer, UCLA My semester abroad in Florianópolis, Brazil was one of the greatest times of my life, and I feel like my time there has truly made me a better person. Sarah Wilson, University of Nebraska, Lincoln If you want to learn a beautiful language, surf great waves, and meet amazing people, COME TO FLORIPA. Thomas Daly, Mahattan College ChileValparaísoI cannot even begin to describe the impact that my stay in Chile has had on my life. This program has pushed me to open my mind and my heart to new situations and people, and I have learned so much about the world and myself in the process. My host mother has treated me as if I were her own child and the ISA staff has been extremely helpful. I now consider Chile my second home and cannot wait to return to embark on new adventures. Amanda Greenwood, Boston College ISA is an excellent program, especially for first time travelers. The program was very well organized, down to the smallest of details and the overseas staff was incredibly helpful and always working on making my transition as seamless as possible. The ISA staff did a wonderful job selecting families for my new study abroad friends and I will be keeping in touch with both my overseas family and the friends I have made in South America for years to come. It truly was a growing experience and something that I will keep close to me forever. Elizabeth Harty, University of Wisconsin, Whitewater I didn't know much about Chile or Valparaiso when I came down here but despite tough issues with language at first, I learned and gained so much from this experience. I would recommend ISA to EVERYONE. The staff is so helpful and the program is organized and thorough. Valpo is a charming city unlike ANYWHERE in the rest of the world and for that, I am so glad I chose Chile. There is so much to be gained from studying abroad and from studying in Valpo you will get the language, culture and travel elements in one city. Hannah Lieberman Studying abroad in Chile has been the single most important experience I have had so far in my life. I have improved my Spanish, met some awesome friends, become more independent, and feel as though I returned to the U.S. a better person. Jenna Hacker, Northern Illinois University If I learned anything while abroad, it is that the capacity of human beings for kindness and patience is remarkable. I could ask a complete stranger for help, and he or she would take the time to point out or explain to me what I needed to know. I lost my fear of speaking so fast because I knew that, no matter how funny or confused I sounded, the people I met were more interested in helping than laughing (though there have been some laughs, but laughter is one of the best parts of making mistakes. That's something else I learned.) Kari Bray, Washington State University My summer abroad has been a life-changing summer. Being with ISA in Chile I have gotten to experience a different culture first-hand, and also got to experience a part of Chile's history. I don't think I would have ever had these experiences if I had not chosen ISA. I would recommend them to everyone! Kassandra Baumgardner, University of Alabama, Birmingham Everything about my experience with the ISA program has been incredible-- more than I could have hoped for. They set me up with an amazing family and a great school which helped me to feel comfortable in this new environment. From there I was able to go off and live my life in Chile, getting to know the culture and its people on a deeper level. My abroad experience has been everything and more than I ever imagined it to be. Redyn Keller, University of Maine In the six weeks that I was in Chile, I changed myself as a person. There were many obstacles which I overcame and through this I was able to learn so much about myself. I have become more independent and less reliant on others. I learned what it was like to live in another country and adapt to it's culture and language. ISA helped me see the country and gave me a home base where I could find friends and a familiar face to help me with any issues I was having. I couldn't have had a better experience and I plan on living abroad directly after graduation. Sarah Schneider, Virginia Tech University My time in Chile was like a rollercoaster ride, but wow, was it worth it. I learned so much not only about Spanish and the Latin American culture, but also about myself. I am definitely not the same person I was when I got here. Its true what they say, another culture isn´t necessarily better or worse than your own, its different, learn to appreciate the differences. Thank you ISA Chile for a great semester. Shaina Gleisner, Messiah College ChinaShanghaiGoing to China not only fulfilled a dream, but demystified the mystery surrounding this place. Christopher Dallam, University of Arizona ISA provided me with the opportunity to travel outside of the United States for the first time. Having studied Mandarin before I went to China really allowed me to enjoy my time and appreciate the opportunity to practice my Chinese with just about everyone I came in contact with. Lastly, ISA Shanghai allowed me to meet so many new people many of which I believe will be friends for a long time. Joseph Cooke, West Chester University Studying in Shanghai, China was the best experience of my life. From goose feet to the Forbidden City the culture of China gave me a new perspective on how people live half a world away. At first Mandarin seems like an impossible challenge, but by the end of the trip I believe it is a manageable task. ISA prepared me well for the experience; our director was welcoming and professional throughout the duration of the program and the entire semester was worry free. Studying abroad is an incredible experience that should be considered by everyone. Tyler Silverman, Florida Gulf Coast University San JoséI have learned more than I ever thought I would. Now I feel confident with my Spanish as well! Amanda Schwartz, University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh Do it. You will meet some awesome people and get to see how things work in another country and another culture, the behind-the-scenes look. Andrew Luckett, University of Kentucky I got to interact with a lot of patients, doctors, and nurses from whom I learned a lot about hospitals, medicine, and patient interaction. Andrew Luckett, University of Kentucky My experience abroad in Costa Rica was life changing. There is nothing that could replace the memories made and knowledge obtained. From the moment I stepped off the plane, I fell in love! Yes, it was difficult at times because my Spanish isn't perfect, but that was simply part of the experience and helped me grow as a person. Alexandra Inslee, University of California, San Diego Morocco is a wonderful place for many different kinds of people and I chose it because I wanted to experience life that was vastly different from the one I grew up in. Not necessarily in the sense of money or food but in culture and lifestyle. What I found here was a culture that I enjoyed and wanted to immerse myself in but also had issues that I fundamentally disagreed with. That was the most valuable part of my study abroad experience: learning that life can exist in many different ways, that there are problems in every society and that its important not to judge a culture from within the confines of your own. Alexandra Loomis, University of Massachusetts, Amherst My experiences while in Morocco were unforgettable. Learning about an entirely new culture and being able to practice another language first hand could not have been done back in the US. I never imagined traveling and learning this way could be so easy and fulfilling.
