Spring students will take a total of 384 hours and have the opportunity to progress through 3 consecutive levels. The Spring program is open to beginning, intermediate, and high intermediate students.

Fall students will have the opportunity to progress through two consecutive levels of Spanish language, each level being worth 126 hours of instruction, totaling 252 hours for the semester. The Fall program is open to all levels of Spanish speakers.

Courses with Locals in Multiple Disciplines - University of Belgrano

Students at an advanced level of the Spanish language will take courses with local students at the University of Belgrano. Students will have an academic orientation before making their final course selections at the University of Belgrano.

Students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of 4 semesters/6 quarters of college-level Spanish are eligible for this program by enrolling in the semester that includes the intensive month.

Students have the option of taking up to five classes from two general categories but must take at least one course with Argentines if they sign up for this program:

Category One: Classes with Argentine Students (Students must choose at least one course from this area)
Students are able to select classes from the regular course listings of the University of Belgrano. These courses are recommended for students who are fluent in the Spanish language because courses will be taken with Argentine students and are taught by Argentine faculty.

Category Two: Latin American Studies in Spanish (as listed under the Fall 2&3, Spring 2&3 programs)
These courses are specifically designed for foreign students. Instruction is in Spanish and classes are taken with international students.

Students who do not wish to enroll in at least one course from Category One will be required to switch to the Latin American Studies program.

Society, Politics & Culture - University of el Salvador

The Society, Politics & Culture program at the University of el Salvador is an excellent program for students seeking to challenge their Spanish proficiency while pursuing studies in the areas of art, culture, political science, history, international studies, sociology, theatre, film and more.

This program offers a coordinated interdisciplinary study of Argentina and the Southern Cone region for students with an intermediate knowledge of the Spanish language (2 semesters/3 quarters of college-level Spanish or the equivalent).

Students begin this program with a mandatory 3-week intensive Spanish language course. For the semester portion of the program, students will select three electives instructed in Spanish to complement the mandatory Contemporary Latin American Language and Culture course.

The University of el Salvador requests that students include enrollment documents completed by hand and a 250-word letter of intent written in Spanish in addition to the standard ISA materials. These documents will be requested following your acceptance into the program.

Please note that students who complete the Society, Politics & Culture program will be eligible to participate in the Liberal Arts, Language & Culture program at the University of el Salvador during the following semester for a discounted price.

If a student has completed 4+ semesters/6+ quarters of college-level Spanish or more, it is strongly suggested that the student pursue a different ISA program. This is because the Society, Politics & Culture program is designed with Intermediate to High Intermediate students in mind (2-3 semesters/3-5 quarters), and all courses available during the semester will cater to the High Intermediate Spanish language level.
