Student Visa and Embassy Information

As a U.S. citizen; if your academic program in Belgium is more than 90 days, you are required to obtain a student visa.

If your academic program in Belgium is less than 90 days, you are not required to obtain a student visa.

Please note that WITHOUT a student visa, you will be in the Schengen States as a tourist and will not legally be allowed to travel or stay in the Schengen States after the 90 period of being a tourist. If you surpass this allotted time, you will be in violation and may be subject to fines, arrest, and/or expulsion.

If you do need a visa, some Consulates require that you apply for one in person by appointment only. If you are 21 years old or older, you will be required to obtain an FBI background check as part of your visa application. This background check can take up to five months to obtain so it's imperative that you apply for a visa as soon as possible.

**Please note that if you are not a U.S. citizen, you should contact your Consulate to verify specific entry requirements. As these requirements vary based on citizenship, non-U.S. citizens may not be permitted to travel to Belgium without a visa or outside of their visa dates. Also, visa fees for non-U.S. citizens may differ so please be sure to check your specific consulate's website for the most up to date information.

Note: Embassy and consulate contact information is subject to change without notice. Please refer to the website of the embassy or consulate to verify information.
