Students may choose between the following Program Terms:
During this program, students have the opportunity to obtain intensive training in Portuguese. This program is open to beginning, intermediate and advanced students. Beginning and intermediate students can complete 144 hours of Portuguese-language coursework, while advanced students can complete 126 hours of Portuguese-language coursework. Coursework is completed in grammar, conversation, written expression and culture.
All courses are instructed in Portuguese and focus on Portuguese language acquisition. Students are evaluated on their ability to demonstrate level-appropriate command of Portuguese grammar and conversation in written assignments and while participating in class presentations and discussions.
During the first two weeks of this 7-week program, Portuguese Language: Oral & Written Comprehension and Expression consists of an 18 hour conversation intensive. Two sections of the conversation intensive are available (Beginning & Low Intermediate, and High Intermediate & Advanced). Following this, students will enroll in two or three courses (depending on language level) during the last 5 weeks to complete between 108-126 hours of coursework.
Students enroll in the following courses based on their language level. Please note that for intermediate students, enrollment in either Portuguese Language & Culture Lab OR Brazilian Culture for Language Learners is dependent on your language level.

This Program offers students international economics and cultural studies courses taught in English and Portuguese. Course topics include studies on ethnicity and society and international political economy. In addition, all beginning-level students must enroll in one Portuguese language course. Students with intermediate and advanced levels of Portuguese may also select a single-credit Brazilian Culture course.
