A private university founded in 1964, the Fundação Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina (UNISUL) has four campuses located in the capital and the southern part of Santa Catarina with a student body of approximately 30,000 students. The university is accredited by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and offers one of the largest distance education programs in all of Latin America. ISA students will attend courses at UNISUL's Ilha Centro location and the Ilha Centro Dib Mussi locations of the Florianópolis campus, located half a mile apart in the central downtown area of the island. Other class options are available with local students at sub-campuses in the greater Florianópolis area including Pedra Branca.The ISA office is located inside the Ilha Centro building within the office of International Programs. Students have access to computer labs, auditoriums, a large library, and countless activities through the office of International Programs and other student clubs and organizations.

ELAP students will attend Fundação Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina (UNISUL) if they are participating in an ISA Academic Program plus ELAP during the semester. Students will work 5-10 hours per week at a local host organization while attending classes at the host university. The ELAP placement will begin 1-2 weeks after the first week of classes and end the week prior to final exams.
These placements have no affiliation with host university and are non-credit bearing, however all participants will develop an ELAP Portfolio throughout the program which includes reflective essays, group discussions, logs of hours, a supervisor evaluation and a certificate of completion.
ELAP students participating in the volunteer group project will not attend a foreign university or complete an ELAP Portfolio.
