Student Visa and Embassy Information
If your academic program in Chile is less than 90 days, you are not required to obtain a student visa.
If your academic program in Chile is more than 90 days, you are required to obtain a student visa before you arrive to Chile.
Summer/intensive month students will enter the country on a tourist visa which you will get upon arrival to the airport in Santiago. The tourist visa is a stamp in your passport which is good for no more than 90 days. NOTE: Recently, a policy has been implemented between the U.S. and Chile, which has discontinued the $160 reciprocity fee.
Semester/Year students will get their visa in the U.S. before departing for Chile. ISA will provide you with some of the necessary documents to obtain the visa (Acceptance Letter, Letter of Economic Solvency/Admissions and Letter of Insurance Coverage), but you will be responsible for obtaining a medical clearance from your doctor, FBI background check to provide for the consulate, as well as the other requirements that are specific to each seperate consulate. If you are having trouble getting the visa, please contact the ISA office immediately!
Please note that you will be required to appear in person at the consulate in order to receive your student visa. Contact the consulate nearest you for the most specific and current information and to request a visa application. Once enrolled in the program, ISA will provide more details regarding the visa process.
Please note that if you are not a U.S. citizen, you should contact your Consulate to verify specific entry requirements. As these requirements vary based on citizenship, non-U.S. citizens may not be permitted to travel to Chile without a visa or outside of their visa dates. Also, visa fees for non-U.S. citizens may differ so please be sure to check your specific consulate's website for the most up to date information.
