Prior to their departure and on-site orientation, students will have access to a lengthy and detailed pre-departure Online Orientation which serves as a primer for their study abroad experience in China. Although the on-site orientation will cover the nitty-gritty of life in China, the Online Orientation allows students to read up on pertinent information before their arrival in Shanghai. The Orientation covers academics, culture, gender relations, useful phrases, food, housing, the university, ISA facilities, money matters, visas, and numerous other details that students also learn about during their on-site orientation. Of course, students are always welcome to contact the China Site Specialist
with any questions.
Students that arrive within the specified arrival period for their program will be met at either the Pudong or Hongqiao airports in Shanghai. The ISA Shanghai staff will provide a comprehensive onsite orientation during the first days of the program, covering topics such as academics, safety, housing, food, and transportation. They will be shown important points of interest at the university and familiarized with the neighborhood where their apartment is located. During these first few days the staff will assist students with their adjustment to living in Shanghai, including information about where to go and how to get around.
