Arts and Design Courses with Locals

Universidad Veritas

Fall 2 2017 + Service-Learning (Sep 10, 2017 to Dec 22, 2017)
Catalog Code: ISJEF3217

Academic Information
The Arts and Design Courses with Locals semester program at the Universidad Veritas is open to students at the high-advanced Spanish level. Students will choose a total of 4 courses from the following categories: Courses with Costa Ricans, Language Modules, and/or General Electives. Students may choose any combination to complete their 4 choices as long as scheduling permits; however, students MUST take at least one course with locals. The Language Modules are 4 weeks long, while the General Electives are 12 weeks. All courses with locals last for the entire semester. For an extra fee, and if schedules allow, students may take a fifth course. Students who do not place into the high-advanced level on the mandatory Universidad Veritas placement exam will not be eligible for this program and must switch into the Spanish Language, Liberal Arts and Environmental Studies program.

Courses are taught by host university faculty at the Universidad Veritas.

Service-Learning Information

In addition to their academic courses, students will have the opportunity to spend 5-10 hours per week at a host organization, increasing language proficiency and gaining valuable international experience. Placements are arranged prior to arrival in the host country and language requirements vary. Visit the ISA Service-Learning website for more information on placement opportunities.

Service-Learning placements are coordinated by ISA and have no affiliation with the university. Students will develop a Portfolio throughout the program, documenting their projects, hours, and program activities.

Students can earn 1-6 credits based on the number of contact hours accrued at the host organization and successful completion of the Portfolio. Visit the Academic Credit page of the ISA Service-Learning website for more information.

Disclaimer

Students who do not place into the high-advanced level must switch to the Spanish Language, Liberal Arts and Environmental Studies trimester program. Due to the difference in dates, students are solely responsible for flight change fees and any costs incurred. For this reason, ISA recommends students wait to purchase their flight after exam scores are received.
