Semester / Trimester

Spanish Language, Liberal Arts & Environmental Studies

Universidad Veritas

Winter 1 2017 + Service-Learning (Jan 7, 2017 to Apr 1, 2017)
Catalog Code: ISJEW1117

ISA Academic Information
Students may take four courses at the Universidad Veritas during the twelve-week trimester program in Costa Rica. The university offers Intensive Language courses and electives taught in English or Spanish (for advanced level Spanish speakers). 80-hour Intensive Language courses are four weeks long. Students are entitled to enroll in a total of four courses (combination of electives and four-week language courses). All classes are at Veritas University with other visiting international students. A placement exam is required to determine language level.

Due to the time commitment of the Service-Learning placements, and the schedule of Intensive Spanish courses, Service Learning students are encouraged to select no more than one 80-hour Spanish language course and should fill their remaining schedule with electives in English or Spanish. Students may choose to add an additional intensive month program(s) to the trimester/semester program if they wish to enroll in more than one Intensive Spanish course.

Gap Year students are also eligible for this program. For more information, click here.

Service-Learning Information
In addition to their academic courses, students will have the opportunity to spend 5-10 hours per week at a host organization, increasing language proficiency and gaining valuable international experience. Placements are arranged prior to arrival in the host country and language requirements vary. Visit the ISA Service-Learning website for more information on placement opportunities.

Service-Learning placements are coordinated by ISA and have no affiliation with the university. Students will develop a Portfolio throughout the program, documenting their projects, hours, and program activities.

Students can earn 1-6 credits based on the number of contact hours accrued at the host organization and successful completion of the Portfolio. Visit the Academic Credit page of the ISA Service-Learning website for more information.
