Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad)/Marianske Lazne
Location: Czech Republic
Students will travel to the western part of the Czech Republic to Karlovy Vary and Marianske Lazne, two of several spa towns that display the beauty and splendor of the natural springs dotting the region.
Marianske Lazne is an amazing little spa town with very typical spa architecture, including a "Singing fountain" that highlights musical performances every summer. Mineral springs pour out in the city center as well as in the forests surrounding the town. During the excursion, students have the chance to taste the springs and relax in one of the many beautiful spas the town has to offer, including the Roman spa. If you're lucky, there will be concerts and music performances which take place near the springs on the main Colonade.
Karlovy Vary is the biggest spa town in the Czech Republic. Thirteen springs flow throughout the city, and all are pure enough to drink. Students take a guided tour through this beautiful city, which is often a site for filming (including "Casino Royale"). Karlovy Vary is also the location of the annual International Film Festival, held every July. Surrounded by hills, Karlovy Vary's outskirts offer a beautiful view of the city. Students have the time to visit the Becherovka museum, which highlights the traditional medicinal herbal liquor or the Moser museum which displays the production of traditional Czech glass, a highlight of this country.
