Puerto Plata Location: Dominican RepublicLocated on the northern coast of Hispaniola, Puerto Plata, with its 11km of nearby beaches and Victorian casitas, is known as "La Novia del Atlántico." Costambar and Playa Dorada stand out among local beaches. Off the malecón, or seawall, one can also visit the 16th century Fort of San Felipe or the Amber Museum. Find the lizard petrified in resin from which Steven Spielberg drew inspiration for the amber mine in "Jurassic Park." To the south of the city, a cable car takes visitors up to the summit of the Isabel de Torres Peak (named in honor of Spain's Queen Isabella) where visitors can find a statue of Christ the Redeemer and a panoramic view of the city.
