Samaná Location: Dominican RepublicThis excursion introduces students to the natural wonders of Samaná, in the northeastern Dominican Republic. Students visit Los Haitises National Park, renowned for some of the richest biodiversity in the DR and the Caribbean, including an impressive array of plants and bird species. Students take a boat ride to the Isla de los Pájaros (Island of the Birds) and explore two different caves. The tour ends with a kayak ride through the park allowing students to experience the rich biodiversity of the region. This excursion also includes a stop in Willmore, a neighborhood where the descendants of English-speaking slaves preserve their ancestors' culture, religion, and customs. Students will meet a descendant who will provide greater insight into the history, culture, and customs of the region's people.
