This program is for students at the intermediate and advanced levels of Spanish proficiency that are interested in participating in a service-learning or internship program in addition to their academic courses.

Academic Information
Students at the intermediate level will enroll in an Intensive Spanish language course focusing on Spanish grammar and conversation offered by the Spanish for Foreigners program at the Pontifical Catholic University. Advanced level students will take courses in Caribbean culture and literature in addition to Spanish grammar and composition. All classes are taken with other ISA students and are taught by Dominican professors.

Service-Learning Information
During the final four weeks of the program, students will work 15-35 hours per week at a host organization, increasing language proficiency and gaining valuable international experience. Placements are arranged prior to arrival in the host country and language requirements may vary. Visit the ISA Service-Learning website for more information on placement opportunities.

Service-Learning placements are coordinated by ISA and have no affiliation with the university. Students will develop a Portfolio throughout the program, documenting their projects, hours, and program activities.

Students can earn 1-6 credits based on the number of contact hours accrued at the host organization and successful completion of the Portfolio. Visit the Academic Credit page of the ISA Service-Learning website for more information.

Minimum GPA

Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50.

Minimum Admissions Prerequisites

For intermediate, and advanced level Spanish speakers. Students must have a 2.5 GPA. All students must take a Spanish language placement exam upon arrival in Santiago. The exam will indicate each student?s language proficiency level, and will determine the courses in which the student is eligible to enroll.
