ISA students participating on programs less than 90 days in length will enter the Dominican Republic as tourists and will need to purchase a tourist card for approximately US$10 upon arrival at the airport in the Dominican Republic. Please note that the tourist card must be paid for in U.S. currency. Before going through immigration and customs, students will be directed to the "casetas" where tourist cards are purchased. After the card is purchased, students will proceed to immigration services and customs to have their passports and luggage inspected. A tourist card is valid for 30 days. Upon departing the Dominican Republic, students will pay a small exit fee for time stayed past the 30 day tourist visa.
Beginning in Spring 2014, all ISA Dominican Republic students participating on programs longer than 90 days will be required to obtain a student visa prior to arrival in the DR. You should consult your Consulate General's website to obtain a student visa application, a list of requirements, and to verify the application process and timetable. For in-person appearance, most Consulates require appointments to be made and have limited spots. The application process currently costs $115 for U.S. citizens.
**Please note that if you are not a U.S. citizen, you should contact your Consulate to verify specific entry requirements. As these requirements vary based on citizenship, non-U.S. citizens may not be permitted to travel to the Dominican Republic without a visa or outside of their visa dates. Also, visa fees for non-U.S. citizens may differ so please be sure to check your specific consulate's website for the most up to date information.
