Housing Information

Housing is provided on all ISA programs in the Pacific region, at an additional cost. There are a range of housing options and costs vary according to accomodation selected and session. Housing at the University of Newcastle ranges from $5,000 - $7,200 with meals, and $4,000 - $6,000 without meals (subject to change.)

A Housing Commitment Fee of $1,000 must be paid by the Final Forms and Payment due date. This fee is nonrefundable after the payment due date and is applied to overall housing costs. The total housing cost will be billed 3-4 weeks prior to the program's departure, once a housing assignment has been allocated.

ISA Housing provides the opportunity for students to experience aspects of the Australia lifestyle that are inaccessible to the average visitor of Australia. All ISA Housing options are either within walking distance or conveniently located to public transit routes. Travel times to the various university buildings generally range between 10 - 20 minutes depending on housing and class locations.

Dorms
ISA students can choose to live in residence halls with Australian and other international students. These are co-ed residences are self- or partially-catered, single bedroom options available on the Callaghan campus. Student housing is assigned on a first come, first served basis.

Each residence hall includes additional facilities such as music, study and game rooms. Bedding is provided in some instances but not in others. Each residence hall is equipped with DSL or wireless internet access.

Student Residence
Students also have the option to live in pre-arranged self-catered, single or share bedroom apartments or share houses located near the central business district of Newcastle. Students will be placed with other ISA students and are assigned on a first-come/first-serve basis. Students are placed in fully furnished, centrally located housing that is located close to their university and/or public transit routes. Students will share a fully equipped kitchen, lounge areas, TV & DVD player, and coin-operated laundry room and internet access. Under most circumstances, students will be provided with a full bedding pack and towel for each session. Meals and laundry service are not included.

Independent Housing
Students may opt to secure housing independently. Students who select this option will be responsible for their own housing during the program and will forgo any ISA assistance for housing matters.

The experience of living in another culture will be both educational and rewarding so long as you stay open-minded and reasonable at all times. There are differences in culture and lifestyle between life in Australia and the U.S. Remember: the key to a positive experience is flexibility.
