Note: A placement exam will be required when you arrive on site.

Intermediate
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of two semesters (or three quarters) of college-level French. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

Please use the following only as a guideline to determine what each student's language level may be. Each semester/quarter is of COLLEGE-LEVEL French or the equivalent of:

0-3 Semesters/0-5 Quarters = Beginning level
4-5 Semesters/6-8 Quarters = Intermediate
6-7 Semesters/9-11 Quarters = High Intermediate
8-9 Semesters/12-14 Quarters = Advanced
Fluent/Native Speaker = Superior

Overview

Objective:
To study the logical aspects of discourse in written texts.

Program:
1.What is a text?

2.Argumentation study:
-Composition
-Logical relationships (addition, opposition, conclusion)
-The process of insistance
-Emphasis
-Manipulation of expression/enunciation

3.Construction of an argument

Grading:
Assignments and in-class participation

Elaboration of summaries with corrections during the first semester/ essays during the second semester

-A course packet is given to the student at the beginning of each semester
