The German Language & European Studies program at Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) offers students a variety of courses in the German and European Studies fields. Popular subject areas include German language, European Studies, Political Science, History, and Sociology.

Students are not required to have a background in German language in order to participate in this program. Students will be required to complete a language placement exam prior to departure if taking a German language course and have background in German language.

Courses are taught by local and visiting faculty at FUB and ISA students take courses with other international students. Courses are taught in English, German, and even Spanish.

Eligibility

Minimum GPA

Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50.

Minimum Admissions Prerequisites

Students must have completed at least one year at a college or university at the time of participation.

All students who enroll in a German course are required to take a placement exam prior to departure to determine appropriate language proficiency. Exam results may determine eligibility for course enrollment.

Students wishing to take subject courses taught in German must have language proficiency eqivalent to the upper-intermediate or advanced level.


*Students have to submit the following additional materials to complete their application: photo and an additional application for host university enrollment and registration. The host university enrollment and registration application will be accessible through the ISA student portal upon submission of the ISA application.
