Student Visa and Embassy Information
All students are required to have a passport. The demand for passports tends to be heaviest between January and August. However, backups and delays can occur at any time of the year due to various reasons and even for expedited service, so be sure to apply as early as possible- several months in advance.
American and Canadian citizens do not need a student visa to study in Germany. However, all students from outside the EU who are staying in Germany for more than 90 days must register with the local Resident Registration Office (Bürgeramt) within 1 week of arrival in Germany and then apply for a residence permit at the Foreigners Registration office.
If you are not a U.S. citizen, you will need to check with your local embassy or consulate to verify entry requirements for Germany. Please check with ISA if you are unsure about any visa/document requirements.
Note: Embassy and consulate contact information is subject to change without notice. Please refer to the website of the embassy or consulate to verify information.
