"Shaping Modern Europe 1: Ideas, movements, controversies (1350-1789): This module provides an introduction to the cultural history and history of ideas of early modern Europe focussing on a number of key movements, controversies and events which shaped modern Europe. Topics covered will include:
cosmography and the mapping of Europe;
humanism and the notion of civilization;
the invention of modern equality;
alchemy and the scientific revolution;
the development of the Enlightenment;
the French Revolution."
