Orientation Information

Pre-Departure Orientation

Prior to their departure and on-site orientation, students will receive a lengthy and detailed pre-departure orientation handbook which serves as a primer for their study abroad experience in Galway. This handbook is designed to be used in conjunction with the Online Orientation in the Student Portal. Although the on-site orientation will cover the nitty-gritty of life in Ireland, the handbook allows students to read up on pertinent information before their arrival in Galway. The handbook covers academics, culture, gender relations, useful phrases, food, housing, the university, ISA facilities, money matters, visas, and numerous other details that students also learn about during their on-site orientation. Of course, students are always welcome to contact the Galway Site Specialist with any questions.

On-Site Orientation

Students fly into Dublin Airport (DUB) where they are met by the Galway resident staff and other ISA Galway participants. Students participate in the first part of their orientation and several cultural activites during the two day/two night excursion in Dublin. Orientation is completed upon arrival in Galway. As part of their orientation, students receive an introduction to Irish society and culture, as well as information on health and safety, housing, transportation and currency. The orientation also covers important academic information, including reviewing students' course selections and the course registration process. Throughout the time abroad, ISA resident staff continues to help students assimilate into the Galway lifestyle.
