Housing Information

ISA Housing provides the opportunity for students to experience aspects of the Italian lifestyle that are inaccessible to the average visitor of Italy. All apartments are either within a quick walking distance to the American University of Rome, or are conveniently located near public transit routes relative to the university. Travel times to the university vary but generally range between 15 and 30 minutes.

Apartments:
The ISA Rome programs include comfortable housing in shared, fully-furnished apartments. These accommodations are conveniently located in three traditional, well-established neighborhoods in close proximity to the American University of Rome. The neighborhoods of Trastevere (Tra-ste-ve-ray), Monteverde (Mon-ta-ver-day), and Gianicolense (Jah-ni-col-en-zay), are desirable residential neighborhoods located on the west side of the city, just south of Vatican City. Compared to other parts of Rome, these neighborhoods have less noise and traffic, more green areas, better access to public transport, and are conveniently located just a short distance from the historic center of Rome.

There is generally only one or two student apartment units per building, and neighboring residents are typically middle-class Italian families who own their apartment. Most ISA apartments have 2-3 bedrooms, lounge/living room, kitchen and bathroom(s). Bedrooms are typically double-occupancy. Each apartment is equipped with basic furnishings and supplies, including one single bed (per student), bed linens and towels, a closet/clothing storage space, basic cookware and kitchenware, a table and chairs and furnished sitting area. Desks, when available, are to be shared by all occupants. Each student is expected to provide his/her own paper and cleaning products as well as replacing light bulbs. Many apartment units include a washing machine.

All apartments include a computer that is connected to the internet via a cable modem and all apartments are same-sex, non-smoking environments.

A $750 refundable housing deposit will be charged to students living in the ISA Rome apartments.

Independent Housing:
Students may opt to secure housing independently. Students who select this option receive a discount equal to the housing portion of the program price.

The experience of living in another culture will be both educational and rewarding so long as you stay open-minded and reasonable at all times. There are differences in culture and lifestyle between life in Italy and the U.S. Remember: the key to avoiding many problems is flexibility. With this in mind, you can become a true Roman!
