How do I get around?

Although Granada does have a public bus system and taxis, there will not be much need to use these means of transportation.

Students are typically within walking distance of everything, including the university. Among locals, walking is the preferred method of transportation. It's the best way to learn street names, experience the personality of each neighborhood, and soak up the local culture. Be sure to bring comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk much more than you might be used to at home! If you get lost, don't be afraid to practice your Spanish.

A one-way bus ride on one of Granada's bus routes costs approximately 1 euro. If desired, you may purchase a discount pre-paid bus card. After purchasing the card, you will charge and recharge the card from within the bus. Each bus ride is 50 cents with the card.

By taxi, a trip from one side of Granada to the other side of the city will cost about 8-12 euros.

Trains and buses connect Granada to other cities in Spain and Europe. Both the train and bus stations are located just outside of the center of Granada. Buses depart almost hourly to Madrid, and the five-hour bus trip will cost approximately 16-17 euros one way, or 29-30 euros round trip. Trains are more expensive, but are more punctual and in general, more comfortable. Please visit the following website for more information on ticket prices and train schedules http://www.renfe.es/

The Granada airport is about a 20 minute taxi commute from the city center and serves mainly destinations within Spain. A bus to the airport runs frequently and costs about 3 euros each way.
