This program is open to students from all majors. Al-Ahliyya Amman University offers ISA students beginning and intermediate level Modern Standard Arabic courses. Students who have not completed 2 semesters or 3 quarters of college-level Arabic or the equivalent must choose language as one of their courses. Content courses include social science, humanities, and fine arts courses related to the Middle East which will give students an understanding of Jordan specifically and the region more generally.
A highlight feature of this program is the ability to enroll in TWO Arabic courses. If a student wishes to progress through one full level, ie. Arabic 101 and Arabic 102, they may do so and earn up to a years worth of credit hours. Students cannot progress through two different levels ie. Arabic 102 and Arabic 201.
You will be required to obtain an initial 30-day visa at your point of entry into Jordan (airport or land border crossing). The visa fee is 40 JOD (around $57). Within the first 30 days of arrival in Jordan, you will need to to extend your visa. The ISA Amman staff will assist you throughout the visa extension process.
An HIV test is required for any student who is applying for a year-long visa. Typically every student will only extend their 3-month visa for an additional 3 months. For the temporary 3-month visa, students of American and European nationalities are NOT required to do an HIV test.
