Academic Programs in Amman
Students may choose from the following Academic Program options:
The semester program in Amman is ideal for students who are looking to experience cultural immersion with the option to focus on either Arabic language acquisition or a wide variety of courses taught in English. Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) offers various levels of Modern Standard Arabic. Students who have taken fewer than two semesters or three quarters of Arabic must enroll in Arabic language courses at AAU. With excursions around Jordan and cultural activities in Amman, students will have many opportunities to experience Jordanian daily life while completing their home university's degree requirements.
The ISA summer program in Amman at Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) offers students the opportunity to learn Modern Standard Arabic while also learning about life and politics in the Middle East. Students will take two courses with other ISA students over a period of five weeks. Students who have taken less than two semesters or three quarters of Arabic must enroll in Arabic language courses at AAU. Excursions to Jordan's most famous landmarks are included in order to give students a more comprehensive view of Jordanian culture.
ISA Custom Programs are developed in partnership with U.S. universities to offer students unique course options. Cultural activities and excursions, program dates and duration, and academics vary by program. Studying abroad with U.S. university students and faculty fosters a cohesive group dynamic with additional support of ISA staff in the U.S. and abroad.
ISA is committed to offering students opportunities to go beyond the classroom and participate in a service-learning or internship program while abroad.
ISA's Service-Learning and Internship division, ELAP, offers opportunities to work at local organizations in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. ELAP-facilitated programs are available independently or may be combined with an ISA academic program. All ELAP programs encourage personal and professional growth, develop language proficiency, and facilitate meaningful community engagement. Students will develop an ELAP Portfolio throughout the program, documenting their projects, hours, and program activities.
Select ELAP placements are eligible for academic credit. Participants can earn 1-6 credits based on the number of contact hours accrued at the host organization and successful completion of the ELAP Portfolio.
