GuadalajaraSummer:Language, Culture and Courses in EnglishSummer 2009 (Jun 5, 2009 to Jul 18, 2009) Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque / Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende / Mayan Riviera / Mexico City and Teotihuacán / Michoacán / Puerto VallartaGuadalajara and TlaquepaqueOn this orientation excursion, students will tour Guadalajara's historic center. In the neighboring city of Tlaquepaque, broswe the local specialty shops, which are nationally known for their arts and crafts. Guanajuato and San Miguel de AllendeGuanajuato, declared a "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO, was the most important mining center in Mexico during the colonial period. The city still maintains its colonial charm with cobblestone streets and historic buildings that are relatively untouched by modern construction. From Guanajuato, students will travel to nearby San Miguel de Allende, a charming city of artists and writers that glows with beautiful mansions and churches. Students will visit El Escondido, the nearby thermal springs, as part of the San Miguel de Allende excursion. Mayan RivieraThe Mayan Riviera is one of the most fascinating destination spots in the world. Students who choose to attend this optional trip will have the opportunity to explore: -Mayan ruins of Chitchen Itza Mexico City and TeotihuacánIn Mexico City, tour the famous Museum of Anthropology, the Main Temple, the world renowned Bellas Artes performing center, the Zócalo (city square), Governmental Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral. Climb the pyramids in the famous pre-Columbian city of Teotihuacán and enjoy views from atop the Sun and Moon pyramids, as well as the Temple of Quetzalcoatl. MichoacánStudents will venture to the rim of the active Paricutín Volcano on horseback, accompanied by local guides. In the nearby colonial town of Morelia sample local dulces, or candies, for which the area is famous for. Puerto Vallarta![]() Sunset in Puerto Vallarta One of Mexico´s most famous resort cities, Puerto Vallarta offers excellent beaches, food, and nightlife. The white-washed houses and stone streets create a charming atmosphere and the surrounding mountains and tropical vegetation make for a majestic landscape. | |
