GuanajuatoCulture Corner![]() ISA Office, the University of Guanajuato and housing neighborhoodsThe ISA office is situated in the heart of Guanajuato, a very short walk from the university. It is located next to the Jardín Unión, a lively plaza lined with cafés and restaurants. The friendly resident staff will be available to you at all times. They will conduct the on-site orientation, lead excursions, assist with housing, and provide support during the enrollment process at the host university. You may come by the office to chat with the staff and your peers or to use the kitchen facilities and computer room. The University of Guanajuato was founded in 1732 and became a public college in 1828. After three centuries of institutional development, the university now has an enrollment of approximately 30,000 students and offers over 50 academic degrees. In addition to many cultural events around the city, the annual university-sponsored International Cervantes Festival in October brings visitors from around the world to enjoy international art expositions, film premieres, concerts, and theatrical performances. Homestays are located in neighborhoods surrounding the university, and most are within a 5-10 minute walk. If they happen to be further than walking distance, there are buses that run right by the university with a special rate for students. Expect to walk downhill to the university and uphill while going home as the heart of the city lies in the valley, and be sure to bring good walking shoes for the narrow, cobblestoned streets! | |
