Prior to enrolling in courses at this language level, students must have completed or tested out of a minimum of four semesters (or six quarters) of college-level Spanish at their home university in the U.S.
Overview
This class will give the student an understanding of the formation of European Literature from the Renaissance to the Baroque periods with special emphasis on Spanish Literature. This course will specifically look at the phenomenons from the Renaissance and Baroque periods along with Neoclassicism. Some of the themes to be discussed relating to the Renaissance period are: the impact of religion and philosophy over Renaissance literature, the counterreformation in Spain and the Humanist and Classical influences in its literature, and man as the center of European literary expression. With relation to Neoclassicism, the following themes will be discussed: France and its influence in European art, enlightened rationality, and literary Neoclassicism in France and Spain.
