Aside from being one of the leading provincial universities in México, the University of Veracruz (UV) boasts its focus on the internationalization of curriculums, and more recently its progress in the field of science and technology. Moreover the university's art/music/dance programs have yielded members of the famous Xalapa Symphony Orchestra, which performs nationally and worldwide. The School for International Students (EEE) specializes in catering to the needs of students who want to learn about Mexican culture and heritage, as well as better grasp the Spanish language. It offers cultural immersion programs in the form of "intercambios", and dance, guitar, art and cooking lessions that help international students adapt to and understand Mexican culture.

Homestays are located in neighborhoods most of which are walking distance to the university. For those neighborhoods that are a bit further away, there is inexpensive transportation in the form of buses or taxis to take you to the university and other points in the city.
