Courses with Locals in Multiple Disciplines

University of Cape Town

Fall 1 2017 + Service-Learning (Jul 30, 2017 to Dec 1, 2017)
Catalog Code: ICPEF3117

This program is designed for students that are interested in participating in a service-learning program in addition to their academic semester.

Academic Information

University of Cape Town does not limit you to a specific academic focus. You can take a mix of classes in departments ranging from engineering to gender studies. A full load is generally 3 or 4 classes depending on the level of instruction. Courses are available in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Law, Business and Sciences. Your ISA Site Specialist will help you pre-register for courses before you arrive and you will finalize your courses in Cape Town.

Service-Learning Information

In addition to their academic courses, students will have the opportunity to spend 5-10 hours per week at a host organization, gaining valuable international experience. Placements are arranged prior to arrival in the host country and language requirements vary. Visit the ISA Service-Learning website for more information on placement opportunities.

Service-Learning placements are coordinated by ISA and have no affiliation with the university. Students will develop a Portfolio throughout the program, documenting their projects, hours, and program activities.

Students can earn 1-6 credits based on the number of contact hours accrued at the host organization and successful completion of the Portfolio. Visit the Academic Credit page of the ISA Service-Learning website for more information.
