Academic Programs in BarcelonaStudents may choose from the following Academic Program options: Academic YearDuring the Academic Year program, students may take Spanish grammar and culture classes at the University of Barcelona (UB), the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) or the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). Intermediate and advanced level courses will be offered at all three schools, while beginning level courses will only be available at the UAB and high-beginning at the UPF. Students at the UAB may take courses in English or Spanish and there are no required language courses. Students at the UPF will be allowed to take courses with Spaniards on a limited basis, including economics courses taught in English. Semester / TrimesterDuring the Semester/Trimester program, students may take Spanish grammar and culture classes at the University of Barcelona (UB), the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) or the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). Intermediate and advanced level courses will be offered at all three schools, while beginning level courses will only be available at the UPF and the UAB. SummerThe Spanish Language and Culture summer programs at the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP), the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) and at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) accommodate students of all levels of Spanish proficiency. Students at both the UPF and the UIMP will take required grammar and culture courses. Students at the UAB have the option of taking courses in English or Spanish. Cultural activities and excursions, program dates and duration, and academics vary by program.
