Housing Information

ISA housing provides the opportunity for students to experience aspects of the Spanish lifestyle that are inaccessible to the average visitor of Spain. All ISA housing options are either within walking distance or conveniently located near public transit routes. Travel times to the various university buildings generally range between 15 and 40 minutes depending on housing and class locations. Please note: all housing in Spain is subject to availability. The experience of living in another culture will be both educational and rewarding so long as you stay open-minded at all times. There are differences in culture and lifestyle between life in Spain and the U.S. Remember: the key to a positive experience is flexibility. With this in mind, you can become a true español(a)!

Homestay:
Homestays are the norm for Spain, and are encouraged by ISA. ISA participants living in homestays will be provided with three meals per day (except on ISA excursion days) and laundry service once per week for the official duration of the program. This is included in the ISA program cost. Students usually share a bedroom with another ISA student, but have the option of paying extra to secure an individual room.

ISA Apartment:
Apartments are assigned on a first-come/first-serve basis, and availability is limited. Rent is included in the program price. Students are placed in furnished, centrally located apartments. All apartments are either within walking distance or conveniently located to public transit routes relative to the university. Meals and laundry service are not included. A $750 refundable security depsoit will be charged to students living in the ISA arranged housing (apartment). ISA may retain some, or all, of this deposit in the case of damage to property, or if utility usage exceeds the allotted monthy amount.

Residencias:
Residencias are similar to the American dorm style, however, they are not located on a university campus and are not affiliated by a university. Room layouts and amenities vary by term and particular residencia. In most cases, students will share a double room with another student from their program. During the summer programs, students may also be assigned to individual rooms. There will be a bathroom inside each room or a bathroom shared per floor, and either a small kitchenette in the room or a communal kitchen on the floor for students to share. Meals are not included, and coin-operated laundry machines are available for use within the residencia's laundry facility. Linens are either provided in the room or available in packs for a small fee. A $750 refundable security depsoit will be charged to students living in the ISA arranged housing (residencia). ISA may retain some, or all, of this deposit in the case of damage to property, or if utility usage exceeds the allotted monthy amount.

Independent Housing:
Students may opt to secure housing independently. Students who select this option receive a discount equal to the housing portion (room, board and laundry) of the program price. ISA is happy to recommend several residencias or apartment search websites for students interested in this option. Please contact the ISA office for more details. Please check with your home university whether you are able to choose the independent housing option.

Please note that housing in an apartment, homestay or residencia is included for approximately the first three months of a Master's Degree program. Contact ISA for further details.
