This beautiful city was founded in the 9th century and boasts more religious monuments than any other city in Spain. The most impressive of these monuments to Catholicism is the gothic Cathedral of Burgos completed in the 15th century. The city is also home to the legend of El Cid, a mercenary who is credited with freeing the area from Moorish rule before his exile in the 9th century.
