MadridEmbassies and ConsulatesIf your academic program in Spain is more than 90 days, you are required to obtain a student visa. Please note that WITHOUT a student visa, you will be in Spain as a tourist. Tourist status gives you 90 DAYS in which to be in Spain (and the other Schengen States). If you surpass this allotted time, you will be in violation and may be subject to fines, arrest, and/or expulsion. This means that, outside of your program dates, you will only be able to travel for the exact number of days between the end date of your program and the 90-day maximum. For example, if your program is 85 days long, you will only be able to travel an additional 5 days before and/or after your program. Most Consulates will not issue a student visa if your academic program is less than 90 days, regardless of your travel plans. Please confirm with the Consualte within your jurisdiction as to whether or not you are eligible to apply for a student visa before making an appointment. If you do need a visa, most Consulates require that you apply for one in person by appointment only. You will need to book an appointment as soon as possible. Failure to do so could result in you having to cancel or switch programs. Please contact ISA immediately if you have student visa questions or concerns. Note: Embassy and consulate contact information is subject to change without notice. Please refer to the website of the embassy or consulate to verify information.
