International Studies Abroad ®est. 1987

Location: Spain

Sevilla, known as the "City of Reflections", Sevilla is known for flamenco, bullfighting, siesta and fiesta, a thriving bar culture of tapas, as well as literary and operative touchstones such as Don Juan and Carmen, etc. Students will visit monuments such as the Seville Cathedral and Giralda bell tower and the magnificent Reales Alcazares, whose halls and gardens you might recognize from various Game of Thrones episodes. The tour will also include some of Andalusia's oldest and most enchanting neighorhoods, such as Barrio Santa Cruz and Triana, where students will hear about celebrated figures and surprising legends associated with each.

Students will see signs of even earlier civilizations such as Tartessians, Phoenicians, and Romans, while also getting a glimpse of some surprisingly funky modern architecture. On the walking tour of the Barrio de Santa Cruz, students will gain an appreciation of the contributions and achievements, as well as the plights and predicaments, of Spain's Sephardic Jews.
