Students may choose between the following Program Terms:

Hispanic Studies, Business & Spanish Language - Universidad Pablo de Olavide - Universidad Pablo de Olavide

This program offers courses at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide, which is located about 5 miles outside of the city center. There are a variety of courses taught in both Spanish and English, and the subjects vary from history and political science to business and biology. Beginning, intermediate and advanced level Spanish language courses are also available.

Students with an adequate language level may participate in up to two classes with Spanish students by means of the Program for Integration with the University (PIU). The ISA Hispanic Studies, Business & Spanish Language program is perfect for the student who enjoys a traditional university atmosphere, yet wants regular interaction with Spanish students.

Advanced level students may enroll in content courses taught in Spanish with international students. Additionally, students who score significantly high on the placement exam but are only a few points away from placing into the advanced level may be eligible to enroll in content courses taught at the advanced level, per the discretion of the UPO. It is important to keep in mind that these courses are taught at the advanced language level, and students are fully responsible for their course selections. Students must have completed or tested out of a minimum of two college-level Spanish courses to be eligible for intermediate Spanish language courses. Students must have completed or tested out of a minimum of four college-level Spanish courses to be eligible for advanced Spanish language courses. There is no language prerequisite for beginning Spanish language courses nor courses that are taught in English.

Students are in class with international students, the majority of which are North American. Courses are taught by host university faculty at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide.

Hispanic Studies & Electives - Universidad de Sevilla - Universidad de Sevilla

This program offers a wide range of courses in liberal arts, geography and history. Those students who would like a grammar review prior to the regular program start may enroll in the Semester/Year program which includes a two-week Intensive Spanish Language course at the ISA Study Center with Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo prior to the regular program start at the Universidad de Sevilla.

Students are in class with international students, the majority of which are North American. Courses are taught by host university faculty.

Education in a Multicultural Context - ISA Study Center with Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo - ISA Study Center with Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo-Sevilla

For students pursuing careers in education or teaching, this program allows students to take education-specific courses alongside completing an internship at a local school in Sevilla. In addition to taking a full courseload at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo, students will participate in an academic internship teaching English as a foreign language for two hours a week gaining hands-on experience working with students and faculty. Courses are taught by host university faculty at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo.

Semester Students:

Students are required to enroll in the Second Language Acquisition: Theory and Practice course. The rest of their classes can be selected from Education Courses in English or from the full course offering in ISA's International Studies, Business & Spanish Language semester/year program. Alongside their coursework, they will complete an internship for two hours per week at a local school and/or a public library. Students are responsible for transportation to and from the local school.

Students who have not completed a college semester/quarter or the equivalent must choose language as one of their courses.

All students take a placement exam upon arrival to determine their Spanish language proficiency level. Exam results may determine eligibility for course enrollment.

Academic Year Students:

The Academic Year program is designed to enhance student acquisition of teaching skills while immersing in the local culture. This is achieved by incorporating an academic internship at a local school teaching English as a foreign language in addtion to taking a full courseload at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo. This program is divided into two sections by semester: the first focuses on theoretical aspects of the classroom and the second targets student integration in the Sevillan community.

During the fall semester, which focuses on theoretics, students are required to enroll in the Second Language Acquisition: Theory and Practice course as part of a full courseload and participate in an academic internship at a local school teaching English as a foreign language for two hours a week. The rest of their classes can be selected from Education Courses in English or from the full course offering in ISA's International Studies, Business & Spanish Language semester/year program. Students are responsible for transportation to and from the local school.

During the spring semester, which focuses on student integration, students are required to take the Multiculturalism and Education course, in addition to selecting a total of two or three courses from the Education Courses in English section of course offerings or from the full course offering in ISA's International Studies, Business & Spanish Language semester/year program. In addition to their course work, students will complete an academic internship for up to 20 hours a week in a local school set outside of the Sevilla city center to provide for a more comprehensive integration into Sevillan culture. Students are responsible for transportation to and from the local school.

Alongside their internship and coursework, students will attend regular round-table group sessions with their peers and professors to enhance their experience in the classroom. Students will have the logistical support from an assigned professor to assist them during the year.

A National Visa is required for programs that are 91 days or longer.

Courses are held at the UIMP satellite campus and are taught by host university faculty. Classmates are international students, the majority of whom are ISA students.

For either the semester or academic year program, advanced level Spanish speakers may choose to add on a Two-Week Intensive Spanish Language course for an additional fee. For more information, click here.

International Studies, Business & Spanish Language - ISA Study Center with Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo - ISA Study Center with Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo-Sevilla

This program accommodates students of all levels of Spanish proficiency. The curriculum includes courses in grammar, communicative skills and Spanish culture, as well as business and economics courses in English. Courses are taught by host university faculty at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo.

For beginning, intermediate, and advanced-level Spanish speakers. All students must take a Spanish language placement exam upon arrival in Sevilla. The exam will indicate each student's language proficiency level, and will determine the courses in which the student is eligible to enroll. Students who arrive in Spain having completed less than one year of college-level Spanish will likely place into beginning level courses. Students who arrive in Spain having completed one full year of college-level Spanish will likely place into the intermediate level courses. Students who arrive in Spain having completed two years of college-level Spanish will likely place into advanced level courses.

Students are in class with international students, the majority of whom are ISA students.

Advanced level Spanish speakers may choose to add on a Two-Week Intensive Spanish Language course for an additional fee. Students must have completed at least 4 semesters, 6 quarters, or the equivalent of college-level Spanish prior to enrolling. The Intensive Spanish Language course consists of 45 hours of advanced-level Spanish language instruction. Please note that adding this course will alter your program dates and require you to arrive earlier to Spain.
