Thailand is a country that sits at the center of the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia with coastline on the Gulf of Thailand. It is bordered by Myanmar in the north, Laos in the northeast, Cambodia in the east, and Malaysia in the south. With so many countries nearby, Thailand has become a crossroad for Southeast Asia's migration, culture, and religion.
Thailand is the third largest country in Southeast Asia in terms of landmass, and has a population of approximately 67 million. 95% of the population practices Buddhism, the primary religion in Thailand. Located by the Gulf of Thailand, Bangkok is the capital and largest city, which also serves as Thailand's political, economical and cultural hub. The country's official language is Thai, although English is also widely used.
Thailand is administratively divided into five regions, each region having its own distinct geographical build. Northern Thailand offers a terrain covered in mountains and forests, while central Thailand is known as the "rice bowl," because it houses the world's most fertile rice and fruit-growing land. In the Eastern region lie the picturesque beaches and relaxing summer resorts, which compliment the south peninsula's gorgeous scenery and fishing communities.

Northern Thailand has a more diverse climate as November to February is generally dry, with cool breezes from the monsoons in the northeast. March to May is still relatively dry, but has a relatively higher temperature than the winter months. Monsoon season often dominates the north from May to November.
The southern region has only two seasons - rainy season and dry season. The rainfall comes at different times on the east and west sides. The rainy season on the east coast runs from September to December while in the west it runs from April to October.
