Students will take three course components. Each course component will be evaluated separately and participants will receive a separate grade for each component on their transcript. Please note- course components may change term-to-term.
This class is designed for students who are more advanced than those in class 1-4. Course 1-5 will cover the same material as 1-4, but begins at lesson 30 and continues to lesson 40 in the second book. By the end of the semester, the goal is for students to have command of approximately 600 new vocabulary words and improve all other elements of Chinese language (including writing), as well as a better understanding of Chinese culture.
The intermediate Speaking Course Developing Chinese will be used at this level. The course begins with lesson 1 then advance students to lesson 15. While continue to work on their pronunciation, students will learn about 500 new conversational vocabulary words and will be trained to practice them in short paragraphs. After successful completion of this course, students will be able to carry on common conversations with Chinese people in all aspects of daily life and will be ready for intermediate level spoken Chinese.
The intermediate Listening Course Developing Chinese will be used at this level. Lessons 1-16 will be covered. The goal is for students to be able to understand daily conversations between native speakers and have simple conversations with them fluently. Students will be ready for intermediate listening after completion of this course.
