    IV. Course Description and Objectives:

    There have been outpouring of information regarding the structure and functions of the brain in recent years. Hopes are rising that we might be the first human generation to fully understand how the mind works in completely scientific terms.   Brain science is an interdisciplinary field which integrates multiple disciplines including but not limited to physics, chemistry, biology, computer science and psychology to elucidate biological mechanisms underlying animal (including human) behavior.  Through this course students should be able to

    • Gain basic knowledge of the anatomy of the Central Nervous System.
    • Learn how various behaviors ranging from simple reflex to language processing can be described by underlying biological processes.
    • Understand the basic methodology used in biopsychology research.
    • Read and criticize a research article published in scientific journals.
    • Explore a possible career in the field of neuroscience
