    Course Description:

    Most events/variables in nature, business, sciences and social environments tend to be random in nature. 

    Making sense of the world or predicting events or variables requires analysis of data under uncertainty.  Statistics is the science of making sense of the world or drawing inferences about the world through analysis of data.  This course covers the necessary tools to conduct statistical analysis of data.

    There is no text book for this course.  The course notes will be posted on a web site for download.

    Topics covered:

    Descriptive Statistics (Types of Data, Frequency Distribution, Graphs, Measures ofCentral Tendency, Measures of Variability)

    Probability and Probability Distributions

    Population and Sample and Sampling Distributions

    Confidence Intervals

    Test of Hypotheses (Z-test, T-test, one-population, two populations, proportions)

    Correlation and Regression Analysis

    Analysis of Variance

    Categorical Data Analysis (Chi-Square Tests)

    Ethical Behavior Requirement

    Cheating, plagiarism, or any form of academic dishonesty will be penalized with an F grade.  Also students must attend all classes and show good attitude.

    Attendance Policy:

    Students are expected to attend every class meeting.  Also, students are expected to be in class on time.  Korea University requires a minimum attendance of 70%.  I will take attendance on random days.  If you are absent you can lose a point.  If you leave the class after taking attendance you will also lose attitude points.


    There will be two in-class exams - a midterm and a final.  The final exam will be cumulative.


    There will be five quizzes, each worth 15 points.  There will be no makeup quizzes. The lowest quiz score will be dropped.  If you miss a quiz, that quiz will be considered a dropped quiz.
