    Course Conditions:

    Students must complete and submit all assignments. There will be a number of presentations and discussion of assignments in class. Students are required to write a mid-term examination and a final examination. Unexcused absence from an exam will result in an incomplete grade.

    Course Description:

    This course studies how government policies on taxation and spending affect economy, market efficiency, the distribution of income and wealth. The course covers topics in welfare economics, market failure, political economy, theory of taxation and fiscal competition. The course is broad in scope and contents with a well balance between theory and relevant empirical examples.

    Course Objectives:

    1. Gain knowledge and understanding of major concepts and models of Public Economics.
    2. Examine and analyse public policy issues.
    3. Understand the roles and behaviour of a government in an economy.
    4. Understand the reasons and effects of government intervention in an economy.
