    Course Description

    This course develops and extends your knowledge of the analysis and design process for developing business information systems by introducing: object-oriented techniques using the UML notation for analysis and design; the requirements discovery process, taking into account soft-systems methodology (SSM); the process of modelling business processes, the decision to build/buy/customise business information systems including cloud-enabled applications bundled as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS); the different structures by which information systems development teams can organise themselves; and modern information systems development methodologies such as the Rational Unified Process and Agile methodologies.

    This course includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

    On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

    • Understand and analyze business needs and problems in a complex business environment.
    • Apply IT developmental tools and techniques in designing and recommending business solutions.
    • Apply project management tools and techniques to plan the implementation of business solutions
    • Effectively communicate the analysis of business needs, problems and their solutions to a range of stakeholders
       

     

    Overview of Learning Activities

    In this course you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.

In addition to topic notes; assessment details and a study schedule you may also be provided with links to relevant online information; readings; audio and video clips and communication tools to facilitate collaboration with your peers and to share information.
