  • Overview

    Course Description

    In this studio you will apply design thinking to the design process by developing interactive, motion design, time-based and/or sonic digital media projects, in response to a brief. You will apply your accumulated knowledge and skills within the context of a production studio that responds to client needs.

     

    Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

    You will be assessed on your development of the following program learning outcomes in this course:

    • Apply theoretical knowledge, conceptual skills and production techniques to the development of digital media solutions for communications problems.
    • Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in diverse contexts within the discipline.
    • Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness and ethical and reflective practice.

     

    Upon the successful completion of this course you will be able to:

    • Investigate and explain contemporary ideas and practices in digital media design.
    • Analyse design briefs and apply digital media production processes, individually and in teams, to resolve design problems to meet client needs.
    • Apply design thinking to creative briefs and generate a range of solutions to present to clients.
    • Investigate and select appropriate production processes for cross-platform project delivery.
    • Reflect on and evaluate your individual and team interactions with clients and recommend enhancements.

    You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment may include projects, assignments, critiques, reports and presentations, individually and/or in groups.

    Assessment will cover both practical and theoretical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.

    Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.

    Assessment Tasks

    Assessment Task 1

    “Initial Response Presentation” (10%).

    In this assessment task, you will present your initial design responses to the brief at hand.


    This assessment will cover the following:

    Course learning outcome

    Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in diverse contexts within the discipline.

     

    Assessment Task 2

    “Milestone Presentation” (20%).

    In this assessment task, you will present your progressions and designs representing a halfway milestone in the delivery of the briefed project.

     

    This assessment will cover the following:

    Apply design thinking to creative briefs and generate a range of solutions to present to clients.

    Assessment Task 3

    “Final Project Presentation” (40%).

    In this assessment task, you will present your final, resolved design in response to the client brief.


    This assessment will cover the following:

    Apply design thinking to creative briefs and generate a range of solutions to present to clients.

    Investigate and select appropriate production processes for cross-platform project delivery.

    Analyse design briefs and apply digital media production processes, individually and in teams, to resolve design problems to meet client needs.

    Assessment Task 4.

    “Final Project Reflection and Critical Analysis” (30%).

    In this assessment task, you will reflect on and critically analyse your final, resolved design as presented in Assessment Task 3.
