    Course Description

    In this course, you will explore the fundamental techniques and concepts required for digital media design. Focusing on the design and production process, you will develop responses to a range of digital media design problems. You will investigate design ideas and applications, including the basic elements and principles of design for digital media.

     

    Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

    Course Learning Outcomes 
    Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

    • Identify and explain key design theories in different cultural contexts.
    • Develop design concepts for digital media problems.
    • Apply theories of colour and visual communication to your digital designs for a range of audiences.
    • Critique and create digital works using the principles and elements of design and typography.
       

     

    Program Learning Outcomes 
    In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

    Analyse and apply relevant knowledge and skills to the field of digital media in a global context.

    Use digital media technologies to design, produce and evaluate content, and communicate to diverse stakeholders.

    Identify and provide solutions to problems within the digital media field.

    Communicate using diverse formats and strategies appropriate to different audiences.

    Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental, ethical and social awareness.

    Overview of Assessment

    You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

    Assessments for this course will be:

    Presentation on key design theory (20%)

    Individual project (25%) – concept, prototype, rationale (written or presentation)

    Group project (25%) – concept, prototype, rationale (written or presentation)

    Process journal (30%) Key focus: production and process

    Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
