    Course Description

    In this course you will explore the inter-relationships between design, technology and culture. You will investigate how theory and historical contexts influence digital media practice. This comparative exploration of the formal and aesthetic qualities of digital media design will enhance your digital media practice.
     

     

    Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

    Course Learning Outcomes 
    Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

    • Identify and discuss the theories and cultural practices underpinning digital media design.
    • Examine how digital media influences culture in a global context.
    • Examine the cultural role and ethical considerations of the designer.
    • Describe how digital media design responds to culture.
       

    Program Learning Outcomes 
    In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

    Analyse and apply relevant knowledge and skills to the field of digital media in a global context.

    Analyse, synthesise and reflect on digital media in both local and international contexts in your work or future study.

    Overview of Assessment

    You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

    Assessments for this course will be:

    Presentation of a theory or cultural aspect of digital media (30%)

    Digital presentation response to culture and media technologies with peer feedback (30%)

    Case study on cultural impact of digital media (40%)

    Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
