To facilitate a guided reading of two contemporary literary texts and to critically view and analyse a film of a contemporary Spanish director To consider the social and political background in which the texts were produced To consider the literary/cinematic genre to which each belongs To discuss the texts and film as artistic expressions of social and political trends in Spanish or Latin American society To identify principal narrative features and show how they function in the text/film
1. appraise the value of literature and film in offering insight into some of the major political, social and cultural events in twentieth century Spain or Latin America.
2. recognize and interpret the significance of key social and politician events in twentieth and twenty-first century Spain
3. identify and describe selected narrative features and recognize how they function in literature and film.
4. develop reading, comprehension and listening competence in Spanish
