  • Overview

    The aim of this course is to improve students Italian language skills, comprehension, written and oral communication, while introducing them to of the most important, and world-renowned aspects of Italian culture, that its cuisine.

    This course will combine a more traditional language instruction with in-class exercises and lectures that will focus on vocabulary and grammar, and a cooking laboratory with practical instruction on basic cooking techniques to prepare a variety of traditional Italian dishes. Additionally, students will get to discover the richness and variety of Italian cuisine and appreciate the differences found in regional traditions, including the delicate yet fascinating complexity of combining dishes with the appropriate type of accompaniments to the meal such as wine. The laboratory will be a true cooking class during which students will learn fundamentals of appropriate food handling (hygiene), food and ingredient selection and combinations, and proportions and measurements.

    Classes will alternate conversation, vocabulary and grammar lessons, with practical cooking lessons led by the Cattolica and Educatt Chef, Tito Sestu. The students will be given instructions, demonstrations, and practical activities during the laboratory to prepare a variety of recipes that characterize different geographical regions of Italy.
