Interpreting texts of important thinkers in the past. Critical analysis of sources. Developing a scholarly opinion in discussion, peerreviews and an individual research report.
Professional historians have to play an active role in society. This course helps to develop a kind of academic citizenship in an international context. Students read and reflect on influential texts of political and philosophical thinkers in the past. They are invited to assess these historical classics not just as prerunners of modern culture, but primarily as participants in former societies in their own contexts.
Lectures and seminars. Visiting a symposium and participating in a paper conference.
TYPE OF ASSESSMENT
Two essays of 1500 words each (50%); final paper of 3500 words (50%). Grade will be rounded off by score of participation in seminar and conference.
